Times U DT Sacco

CSR Journey

Times U DT Sacco’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) journey began in 2014, when the Sacco sponsored its first group of needy students to pursue secondary education — a commitment that has continued annually, with at least two students supported every year.

In 2017, the Sacco extended its outreach to Meru GK Prisons, donating Christmas items to inmates during the festive season. By 2019, our efforts had reached Jawa Children’s Home, where foodstuffs and water tanks were donated to improve living conditions.

The momentum grew in 2021, with visits to Rehema Children’s Home and a partnership with Nkubu Rotary Club to clean town furrows, demonstrating both social care and environmental stewardship. In 2023, the Sacco visited Tunyai Children’s Home and participated in a county environmental program by donating trees. Most recently, in 2025, we hosted a medical camp for our members, expanding our CSR footprint into healthcare.

From education and child welfare to environmental conservation and healthcare, Times U DT Sacco has consistently demonstrated that CSR is not a side activity but a core expression of our values. The establishment of the Times U DT Sacco Foundation now provides a stronger, structured platform to scale these efforts — ensuring that our mission of empowering communities and creating opportunities for a better future continues to grow.

The lack of resources and trusted partners has remained a constant challenge to the growth and progress of our communities. Times U Foundation is committed to address this gap by being the trusted partner in giving hope to communities, building platforms to enhance interaction and growth, and above all else, bring transformation beyond imagination.

How the Foundation will

Source For Funds

The Foundation will be financed through dedicated fundraising initiatives, corporate sponsorships, partnerships with development agencies, and grants from local and international organizations. In addition, the SACCO will allocate a portion of its annual income and explore sustainable investment opportunities to support the Foundation’s programs. Importantly, no member deposits or funds will be utilized, ensuring that the Foundation’s activities remain fully independent and dedicated to driving social impact and community development.

Times u Foundation Trust operations will be limited within Kenya. However greater emphasis will be directed towards the Counties of Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Isiolo and Embu.

Geoffrey Kinoti Kathurima

Geoffrey Kinoti Kathurima is a distinguished leader with a strong background in business management, entrepreneurship, and community service. He holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (Entrepreneurship) from Kenya Methodist University (KEMU) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Mount Kenya University (MKU).

Japhet Aritho

Managing Director, Airtel Mobile Commerce Uganda Limited (AMCUL)

Japhet Aritho is a seasoned fintech and telecommunications executive with over two decades of experience in mobile money, digital financial services, and commercial strategy across Africa. He is the Managing Director of Airtel Mobile Commerce Uganda Limited, where he leads the company’s vision to drive financial inclusion through innovative, affordable, and secure mobile money solutions.

Prior to his appointment at AMCUL, Japhet held senior leadership positions at Airtel Money Group, M-Pesa, and Econet Group, where he spearheaded transformative initiatives in mobile commerce, payments, and digital lending.

Under his leadership, Airtel Money Uganda has introduced groundbreaking services, including the Airtel Money Global Pay Card, Uganda’s first mobile-based credit scoring solution in partnership with GnuGrid CRB, and zero-fee international remittances through strategic global partnerships.

Recognized among Uganda’s 100 Leading and Most Admired CEOs (2024), Japhet is widely respected for his visionary leadership, commitment to financial inclusion, and ability to scale digital innovations that empower millions of customers.

He actively contributes to the fintech ecosystem through thought leadership, industry collaborations, and advocacy for digital transformation in Africa.

Mutuma Nkanata

Mutuma Nkanata is a Senior Partner at MMN Advocates, where he leads the firm’s Public Law and Administration practice. He is the former executive director of the NGOs Coordination Board of Kenya and the first Director of Public Benefit Organizations Regulatory Authority (PBORA).

He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree and a Master of Arts in International Studies from the University of Nairobi, and he completed his Post-Graduate Diploma at the Kenya School of Law.

Mr. Mutuma is a recognized expert in Kenyan public benefit and non-profit regulations, specializing as a Public Benefit Organization (PBO) Law Specialist. He possesses a deep understanding of the PBO Act, including its provisions on registration, governance, self-regulation, and the roles of the PBO Authority and the National Federation of Public Benefit Organizations.

A passionate human rights advocate, Mr. Mutuma is well-versed in various local and international human rights laws. He has previously worked with Various human rights organizations.

Patrick Mwenda Rutere

Patrick Mwenda Rutere is a seasoned educator, accomplished entrepreneur, and respected leader in the cooperative movement, with a distinguished career spanning over 30 years in education and more than two decades in business and community leadership.

Mr. Rutere began his professional journey in the education sector, holding a Diploma in Education with a specialization in Accounting and Economics. Over the course of his three-decade-long service, he dedicated himself to teaching and gradually rose through the ranks to retire as a Deputy Principal. His tenure in education is marked by a legacy of academic excellence, mentorship, and transformational institutional leadership.

Outside the classroom, Mr. Rutere has established himself as a strategic and visionary entrepreneur. With over 20 years of experience in business, he has successfully ventured into the transport, real estate, and fashion and design industries. His keen business acumen, coupled with a strong commitment to quality and innovation, has earned him recognition in both local and regional business circles.

Catherine Karambu Mwamba

Chief Executive Officer, Times U Sacco

Catherine Karambu Mwamba is a visionary cooperative leader and the Chief Executive Officer of Times U Sacco, where she has successfully steered the institution toward sustained growth and member-centered excellence for over 13 years.

With a strong commitment to financial inclusion and community empowerment, Catherine has championed innovative financial solutions that enhance economic opportunities and promote a culture of savings and investment. Under her strategic leadership, Times U Sacco has earned a reputation for integrity, efficiency, and vibrant member engagement.

Catherine holds an MBA in Strategic Management from Meru University of Science & Technology, a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Marketing) from Kenya Methodist University, and a Higher Diploma from the Kenya Institute of Management. She is also a graduate of a Women Mentorship Programme in Canada and has undertaken professional training in Cooperative Management, Finance, Corporate Governance, Risk Management, and Financial Leadership.

Beyond her professional role, Catherine serves as a Board Member at Uruku Girls Secondary School and is deeply committed to mentoring youth and women through financial literacy and entrepreneurship initiatives.

Renowned for her inclusive leadership, ethical stewardship, and transformative vision, Catherine continues to inspire growth and innovation within the cooperative movement—fostering a financially empowered society anchored on trust, sustainability, and shared prosperity.

David Kibanga Mbogori

David Kibanga Mbogori is a distinguished educationist, administrator, and community development leader whose lifelong commitment to service has left a lasting impact in Meru County and beyond. He began his teaching career in the early 1960s, serving in various schools across the region, where he cultivated a culture of academic excellence, discipline, and integrity. His exemplary leadership and dedication to quality education earned him appointment as Zonal Inspector of Schools, a role in which he championed improved learning standards, mentorship of young teachers, and expansion of educational opportunities for local communities.

Beyond the classroom, Mr. Kibanga played a significant role in community empowerment initiatives. He was among the pioneering founders of Times U Sacco, contributing to its growth into a trusted financial institution supporting economic development and financial inclusion for thousands of members. His visionary leadership also extended to the agricultural sector, where he served as a Director at Imenti  tear Factory, actively promoting farmers’ interests and enhancing cooperative efficiency.

Mr. Kibanga is the founder of Uruku Academy, a testament to his enduring passion for education and youth empowerment. Through his professional service and community initiatives, he has positively transformed lives and inspired generations to pursue excellence, integrity, and service.
